05/23/13 Often I am asked what a typical day in the life of an actor is. Well, you basically never know because they are always different. Today, I was sort of having a leisurely day before having to leave to pick up Joe from work to head straight for San Diego for a weekend of The Sound of Music Performances. As I am walking out the door, with my bags in hand, and with the dog (because she was coming to San Diego too), I receive a phone call to head to Santa Monica for an audition and that it would only take like ten minutes. I say yes (I am in the habit of saying yes to opportunity these days!) letting them know I am literally on my way out the door heading to San Diego. So, I arrive at the location, of course go into to three wrong doors trying to find the correct office (all three doors are the same company, just different departments and they of course are not labeled as such). Finally, I find the correct office and ask the receptionist if it is ok where I parked and she said no and that they will tow especially on Thursday and Fridays and tells me I should park on the street. Well, having to leave the dog in the car for just a few minutes with the windows slightly down, I do not feel comfortable parking on the street where I cannot watch the car. So, I end up parking where she tells me, in the lot, blocking two other cars in with the flashers on and the dog in the car. So I go in and the casting director now would rather see me in a skirt, so I have to change and then audition. Finally I finish the audition and can head to San Diego. What seemed like a leisurely day turned into chaos and me scrambling to make my call time down in San Diego. I made it and it was a wonderful show but definitely not a typical day.
