02/07/11 We left on our journey out west one month and one day ago! For only being one month, I feel like we have accomplished a lot and are finding our way. This week for me will be spent researching agencies, networking events, classes, etc. I have located the information about Central Casting, which is where many find casting notices for background/extra work. So, I have all of my paperwork printed and will make a trip to their Los Angeles offices sometime this week. Also, found information in regards to Actors Access which seems to be a decent tool to help book some smaller projects. I actually signed up today and submitted myself for twenty projects! So we will see if I receive any callbacks from any of them. I also submitted my materials to the first California agency! Hopefully, I receive a call back from them too! I have come to the realization that I have to become a member of the union(s) out here. To my knowledge it was not worth it to become a member back in Ohio because you ended up being more expensive to hire if you were union and a lot of times would not get the job. But out here it is a must. I think I will be able to get in with AFTRA first, followed by AEA and SAG in no particular order. There are many positives to joining the unions from what I can see; but the major downfall I see initially, is the price! So expensive! Oh well, I just have to tell myself it will be worth it in the long run. I have spent lots of time in front of the computer today but am about to log off and go enjoy a nice dinner with some friends in Hermosa Beach!
